IELTS Reading - Sentence Completion
In this task for the
IELTS reading you have to complete sentences using a certain number of
words. Here are some factors to remember when answering a sentence
completion task:
- The questions will be in the same order as the text.
- The questions provide the clues where to find the answers in the text.
- You need to skim (Skimming is used to quickly identify
the main ideas of a text.)

- You need to scan (Scanning is used to search for key words or
ideas.)
- You should mark the passage or the answer that relates to the question.
- You need to look out for keywords or phrases before you start
scanning/skimming the passage. This helps you know what you are looking for.
-
Look at the sentence in the question and think about the part(s) of
speech/ phrase that fits into the sentence within the limitation of
the word count.
